    Shay Carpenter Founder & Education Director at Owl Education Group

    Shay Carpenter

    Founder & Education Director

    Shay's experience as an educator began as a special education teacher in Massachusetts and continued with work in St. Vrain and Denver school districts. Her personal experience with a learning disability provides depth in addition to her professional training and Masters Degree in Special Education.

    Dorie Glover, PhD

    Learning & Behavior Specialist

    Dr. Glover began an academic career at UCLA after conducting clinical work with the Autism Partnership and helping establish a broad public health action plan for infant mental health at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She holds a Ph.D. in psychology with an emphasis on Learning and Behavior and is a Professor Emeritus at the Geffen School of Medicine. She has continued her work in autism including serving as an expert witness for cases regarding school policies and best practices.

    Charlie Wampfler

    Academic Intervention Director

    Charlie graduated from Miami University with her teaching license and degree in K-12 Special Education. Her teaching philosophy is centered around the belief that each student is unique. Using tailored lesson plans and and an active approach to learning, she caters to each student’s strengths and cultivates opportunities for growth. Outside the classroom, Charlie is an adventurer at heart who looks for every opportunity to get outside and see the world.

    Caitlyn Ball

    Academic Interventionist

    Growing up in a large family, Cait knew she wanted a career working with kids. She studied elementary education at Keene State College before moving to Boulder in 2005, where she attended Metro State and graduated with licensure in Elementary Special Education. Cait helps kids do the absolute best they can by tailoring lessons to individual learning styles. Cait is active in the outdoors, and enjoys running, hiking, biking, racing and the amazing music scene.

    Cristian Mendoza

    Math Instructor

    My name is Cristian Mendoza. I earned both Bachelor and Master Degrees of Science from CU Boulder in the Spring of 2015. I taught and helped teach a variety of mathematics as I studied--both pure and applied, from introductory algebra and geometry to calculus and mathematical physics. I was also engaged in optics research as a graduate student. When I finished my studies I lectured for a Pre-Calculus course in the department from which I graduated. Teaching is a passion of mine and I love empowering students with their own minds through mathematics. When I am not tutoring, I am either engaged in some sort of research or doing Kung Fu. I am looking forward to helping more people with mathematics, and I am honored to be a part of the team!

    Daniel Thomas

    Assistant

    Dan moved to Boulder from Nashville, TN in 2000 with his family. As a student on the Autism Spectrum, navigating school was a challenge, however, after attending Fairview High School and then Front Range Community College to acquire an Associate of Applied Science in Animation, Dan worked in various office settings gaining experiences as he pursues his dream of being a writer and animator for the Walt Disney Animation Company. Currently, Dan is our Office Assistant where he works with the Program Director and Academic Intervention Director to manage all of the daily office tasks. Outside of work Dan works closely with the Expand Program, Beyond Limits and assisting students in the iStar & Sketch Up programs at Trimble. Dan is an avid traveler, exceptional runner and enjoys playing basketball in his free time.

    Chelsea Matz

    Academic Interventionist

    Chelsea grew up in North Carolina and holds a Masters Degree in Counseling and Psychological services. She moved to California in 2012 and experimented with working in education and promptly fell in love with working with kids. Chelsea has worked in both traditional and project-based schools and values the diversity of methods and learning styles. In her free time she loves to travel and document life with her camera.
